Frequently Asked Questions

How much solar power do I need for my sailboat?

There is no easy answer with this one, you will need to find out the rated draw of your systems in amp/hrs and then have to do some math to ensure your panels can produce enough power.

For example a Keel cooler system uses 25amp/hrs per day you would need a 100 Watts (25amp/hrs x 4 = 100) of solar just to keep the cooler running.

What size solar panel do I need to charge my boat battery?

The easiest way to find out is to take the output of the solar panel in milliamps and divide it by 2 and that’s about the size battery it can maintain.

What is the best thing to clean solar panels with?

Just like a good car wash solar panels only need a hose and a bucket of soapy water. If you dont have a hose available you can also used bottled water. However do not use salt water to clean the panels.

Is it OK to walk on solar panels?

Depending on which panels you have purchased will depend on if you CAN walk on the panels, however, it’s never recommended as most panels will be damaged by the weight.
