The Best Bull Riding Helmets Reviewed

Best Bull Riding Helmet: 100X Alpha Bullriding Helmet

Best Bull Riding Helmet

100X Alpha Helmet

The Alpha 100X is the cream of the crop and hands down is the best bull riding helmet in terms of protection and comfort. It offers a titanium alloy face mask instead of the usual steel and the helmet itself has EPP dual-density padding and a carbon fiber frame along the bottom side. I have yet to see this level of protection in any other face mask on the market.

In regards to comfort, the helmet is made from lightweight materials and has a washable liner. One user states it’s so light he feels like he isn’t wearing it.

The downside however is all this doesn’t come cheap and the price reflects this. But can you put a price on safety?

Best Bull Riding Helmet (Alternative Pick): Rodeo Hard Bull Riding Helmet

Best Bull Riding Helmet (Alternative Pick)

Rodeo Hard Bull Riding Helmet

The Rodeo Hard Bull is the next step down from the Alpha and at a much cheaper price point. The inner of the helmet is still the same High-Density EPP Liner but the cheaper price point swaps out the Titanium face mask for a steel one. It’s also significantly lighter than the alpha weighing just under 2lbs compared to the Alpha’s 3.8lb.

Best Bull Riding Helmet Budget Pick: CCM 50 Bullriding Helmet

Best Helmet Budget Pick

CCM 50 Bullriding Helmet

While originally marketed as a hockey helmet the CCM 50 is also perfect for bull riding. Like the Rodeo Hard, it features a steel cage / face mask but instead of EPP High-Density foam, it has VN High Density. EPP is better for dampening direct impacts but VN does better with indirect or rotational Impacts. Both will protect you from bulls but the VN becomes less effective over time and needs more inspections.

The CCM is a great budget pick for someone who is just getting into the sport.

Best Youth Bull Riding Helmet: Bauer Prodigy Helmet

Best Youth Helmet

Bauer Prodigy Helmet

Aimed for youths that are 3-5 years old the Bauer Prodigy helmet fits little noggins up to – 18.8″ – 21″.

When purchasing a helmet for youth you don’t want to spend too much as it’s likely they will outgrow it in the next few years. The Bauer is in that sweet spot that provides enough protection at an affordable price.

What We Think of Some Other Helmets Available

Bauer IMS 5.0

A great alternative budget purchase and is similar to the CCM 50 at a slightly cheaper price point. But it weighs an extra 0.3lbs that’s over 10% heavier which is why this one didn’t make the budget pick.

CCM Fl3ds Youth Hockey Helmet

While having a better fit than the Bauer 18.5″ – 21.6″ (47 – 55 cm) the CCM Youth helmet is a little more expensive it does feature D3O Smart Foam in the rear of the helmet which provides a little more protection. But the price is significantly more the Bauer offers enough protection but if you want to spend a little more for some extra peace of mind then the CMM FFl3ds is the choice.

If you are born after October 15th 1994 you are obligated to use a helmet. and its extremely common for most riders to wear them these days regardless of age. Unfortunately, unlike other helmets there are no one size fits all helmets, so make sure to buy an age-appropriate one!

Why do bull riders wear helmets?

After seeing too many champion riders like Kanin Asay suffer from traumatic head injuries most riders adopted wearing helmets as the norm for Bull Riding.
